SDA Florida Hospital receives Sculpture of Christ

Rev. Andy McDonald of Florida Hospital Seventh-day Adventist Church accepts gift, Bronze Bust of Christ from Bob Miller.

Founded in 1908, Florida Hospital, is the largest hospital in Central Florida and is a nonprofit operated by the Adventist Healthcare System. The Florida Hospital Seventh-day Adventist Church is an important and integral part of the Florida Hospital campus and Adventist Healthcare System.

In 1991 Rev. Andy McDonald and The Seventh-day Adventist Church at Florida Hospital retained R. Miller Architecture to develop a 1 acre parcel of land for the 90,000 s.f. campus vision. Since that time, R. Miller Architecture has provided architecture services on 3 projects including the church, administrative offices and the childcare facility.

In 2005 Bob Miller purchased the original bust of Christ in clay from longtime friend and artist Jerry Matthews. The idea for the bust of Christ was originally conceptualized in the late 1980’s when Bob shared with Jerry about the shroud of turin and the notion of studying the image of Christ. After carefully measuring the shroud of turin, Mr. Matthews sculpted a full scale bust of Christ.

The bronze features Christ at 33, the age of his death, with the facial features of a Nazarene and yet a tender look of a compassionate shepherd. Pictured above is Rev. Andy McDonald accepting the gift, the Bronze of Christ.
