AIA Orlando Chapter Honors Bob Miller

The American Institute of Architects Orlando Chapter Honors Bob Miller with the Nils M. SchweizerCommunity Service Award

Bob Miller, President of R. Miller Architecture, Inc. of Winter Park is this year’s recipient of the Nils M. Schweizer Community Service Award. Each year the American Institute of Architects Orlando Chapter recognizes one qualifying candidate for the prestigious honor.

The Nils Schweizer Community Service Award is presented to an architect whose leadership in community activities and service has been a direct benefit to the profession or community. The individual’s leadership and service must demonstrate notable contributions through voluntary service resulting in initiatives, programs or civic influences.

Mr. Miller’s service to society began in 1968 as a spokesman for the environment at the University of Florida School of Architecture. Since obtaining his architectural license at the age of 29, he has steadfastly sought to honor the profession by serving society through volunteer efforts locally, regionally, and around the globe.

Over the last 16 years, Mr. Miller has served on the boards of 9 charitable and civic organizations and as board chair of 5 of them. His causes have been diverse: a new downtown for his city – Maitland, orphans in Haiti, indigenous people in Central America, chemically dependent men in Central Florida, education and economic empowerment in the oldest African American township in the US, a college in Russia, public transportation using alternative energy, and mentoring and supporting aspiring architects.

Mr. Miller had the privilege to work for Nils Schweizer from 1981-1988 at Schweizer Inc. “He was a tremendous role model for young architects – it’s an honor to receive this award” says Bob Miller. The award was presented to Miller at the AIA Design Awards Gala held on April 29th at the Orlando Country Club.

R. Miller Architecture, Inc. is celebrating 17 years of providing award winning designs. The firm offers comprehensive planning, architecture, interior design and landscape architecture services for commercial, religious, private, and public sector clients.
