Custom Residence in Windsong, Winter Park – A tribute to Greene & Greene Architects
California Dreaming

Drawing inspiration from California’s architectural heritage and the early 20th Century American Arts & Crafts movement, this custom home is designed to reflect the Owner’s affinity for California living. The design was developed based on conversations with the Owners who wanted a home that would honor a Greene & Greene design.

Greene & Greene Architects were founded by brothers Charles & Henry Greene in 1902 in Pasadena, California. Their legacy in residential design is characterized by a master craftsmen approach to architecture. In 1952 “they were recognized by the American Institute of Architects for contributing to a "new and native architecture" and are generally credited with fostering a new way of considering buildings and their furnishings as examples of artistic craft.” Unfortunately the firm dissolved in 1922 but their unique design style left a rich legacy.

This new custom home was built on a quarter acre located in the exclusive Windsong Neighborhood in Winter Park with views of Lake Berry. Windsong is a 122 acre single family neighborhood located on 3 pristine lakes in the heart of historic Winter Park.

The 2 story residence features concrete block clad with cedar shingles, natural river rock stone columns, brick sills, pergolas, and a “tree of life” hand crafted stained glass door, inspired by The Gamble House entry located in Pasadena, California.

Interior architecture showcases exquisite craftsmanship such as cedar beams, custom wainscoting, stair and railing detailing as well as a coffer ceiling, and custom finishes throughout.
